Gods of Nature

Welcome

Does anyone know why it is called mother nature? I believe it came from the Greeks and they tried to hope and pray for certain things and thus created gods. For example, you have the sun god who would pray to for warmth, the god of harvest for good crops. So when you want certain bad events such as cyclones and other things to go away, or wonder where did these other gods come from...you turn to what you have always seen. Earth. Everything comes from the earth and as far as I am aware, I don't think a man has given birth. So you get Mother Nature.

Chaos is said to be the first god...everything game from disorder into order. But is that how life truly is. We pray to god to help us? Look to the stars hoping that there is a heaven above? A place of peace and tranquillity, a place to be happy. Should we keep looking up or perhaps we should keep our eyes on the ground and look around us. In man. (I use 'man' here  and elsewhere as 'mankind' and is not intended in any way to be sexist).

Man has built many things, man has destroyed many things. With so much happening in the world. War, terror, disease, natural disasters. Who is the cause? Is it the gods that we have prayed to for centuries? Is it mother nature? Or is it man?

Man has risen to power and has dominated over not only animals, but other human beings. With this level of power, what is holding us back from calling ourselves...gods. We can erect large buildings, alter the course of rivers, and even create life outside of a woman's body. We take life and play god in the judgement of not only criminals who may deserve death, but of children who we influence to such an extent that their true nature becomes hidden. This is what we look to now for guidance and no longer the stars or gods. We have replaced them with those who play God with the lives of man:

Perhaps we should close our eyes to the causes and believe in the gods once more. Isn't it easier to blame something you cannot see...

Life's not fair,

nor is life just.
This planet is run by man,
and in man we trust.

In man we trust to keep us safe.
In man we trust to bar the gates.
To keep evil away from man.
To keep the demons in Satan's land.

But evil endures, who is to blame?
Is it the demons, sent forth from Satan's flame?
Is it the fault of God,
who chooses to let evil reign?

Or is it man?
Is it the fault of man that we are misguided?
Is it the fault of man,
that we are undecided?

Undecided on evil.
Undecided on its cause?
Undecided how it should be punished,
when it is behind closed doors.

Evil will always endure.
Because it is man we place at our core.
It is in man that we believe,
and that...that is the greatest flaw.
